When you choose a pair of Bimbles for your child, you can rest easy knowing that you really have ticked all the boxes. Bimble Shoes are:
Podiatrists tell us that soft shoes are ideal for small, growing feet making their first steps in the world.
For thousands of years baby humans have been running around barefoot, finding their balance and strength by staying in close contact with the ground beneath them. We are all about getting back to our roots. Little feet need space to move uninhibited and to feel the ground beneath them to develop strength and balance – the way nature intended!
Parents tell us that their children like them so much they don’t want to take them off at bed time!
The depth of the toe area of our shoes is really important. Little feet are chunkier than adults and we want those gorgeous chubby toes to have plenty of wiggle room! This also helps with balance as toddlers first start finding their feet, and ensures there is no restriction in their growth.
The great thing about soft leather is that it shapes itself to your child’s foot, and naturally toughens up in the areas (such as the sole) that get most wear and need the most protection.
Our shoes are made from just two pieces of leather, which means the soles are curved up to the side without any additional soling. We only use thick leathers, which ensure plenty of cushioning below the foot, and this leather moulds to the shape of the individual foot, toughening up with wear. Although they may resemble comfy slippers they are plenty strong and protective enough for little feet on the move.
Handmade in the UK
Bimbles are handmade with love in our small family workshop in England. Bimble’s founders, sisters Bethany and Osyth grew up with shoe-maker parents, who have been making bespoke leather shoes by hand in their small workshop in Somerset, England, for decades. When we became mothers ourselves we wanted to create a good quality shoe suitable for their babies’ first steps that wouldn’t restrict their movement or growth. Based on our parents’ design we made our own.
We use only the finest breathable natural leathers. All our shoes are made with cow hide, some full grain leather and some with the hair left on which gives some of our slippers their cosy furry appearance. No pink tigers or blue leopards were harmed to make our baby shoes!
All our leather has been tested and complies to EU chemical safety regulations.
We love our Bimbles! My little one was just getting to grips with walking and still stumbling a lot. I felt that conventional (rigid) shoes weren't giving her enough sensation from various terrains, through her feet, for her sense of balance to get more secure. It felt like a more natural progression from socks/booties/bare feet to put her in Bimbles, and she's notably happier about having the soft leather put on her feet than the usual shoes on offer for one year olds. and I'm a fan of the 'on trend' colour options! Thank you so much for sending the shoes, they arrived today so perfect timing for tomorrow! Henry loves the shoes (and the box)! I bought them after a recommendation by my friend. They are fantastic although I also agree at 10months and in the 91st-95th percentile, I am worried what Henry will wear when he next grows! Bigger sizes please!!! Thank you again for your wonderful service, what a fantastic company Bimbles shoes are!
Hi. I would just like to say that my son wore his Bimbles all morning in the baking 30° heat and when I took them off his feet were not at all sweaty. When he has worn crocs or doodles at 22° his feet are wet with sweat. Thank you Bimbles.
Our sizes are true to UK sizes, however it’s always a good idea to measure little feet to ensure the best fit. You can download our printable measuring guide here.
|UK Size||EU size (approx)||US size (approx)||Foot length (allowing some wiggle room*)|
It’s important to allow some growing room at the end of the shoe, so if you find the big toes pushes up against the end it’s always best to go up a size. Too much extra space and the child may trip, so don’t go crazy!
The lace up style of Bimbles allows a variety of foot widths to be accommodated comfortably, and you will find the leather flexes over time to the foot shape. Some people find they get more wear than with rigid shoe styles as the leather seems to ‘grow’ with the foot.
Some people say our sizes are a little smaller than other high street brands (though they all vary!) so if in doubt, we recommend you go for a larger size.
* We have allowed some wiggle room, so for example, if your child’s foot measures 11cm, the size 3 shoe will actually be a little bit bigger
If in doubt get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
